English 0511
About Course
Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0511) is designed for learners who do not use English as their first language but wish to develop effective communication skills in English. It focuses on practical language use across real-world contexts, helping learners improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills required for further study and everyday communication.Â
The course supports learners to understand written and spoken English in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts, and to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and accurately. It emphasises both comprehension and production of texts, integrating grammar, vocabulary and language functions.Â
Learning progresses from foundational language comprehension to more complex communication tasks. Learners practise skills such as extracting specific information from texts, writing for different purposes and audiences, listening for meaning and implied detail, and taking part in spoken interactions.Â
This qualification prepares learners for further academic study where English is the medium of instruction and enhances confidence in real-life communication scenarios such as travel, study and work environments.
