Mathematics 0580
About Course
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) is an internationally recognised qualification for learners typically aged 14–16. It is designed to develop mathematical knowledge alongside analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential both in further study and everyday application. Learners build a strong foundation in core mathematics while also accessing extended topics if aiming for higher grades.Â
Study begins with basic concepts in number, algebra, geometry, and statistics, progressing through coordinated work on coordinate geometry, trigonometry, transformation, and probability. The syllabus balances mechanical technique with reasoning, interpretation, and the communication skills necessary for mathematical understanding.Â
The qualification provides differentiated routes Core and Extended that allow learners of different abilities to demonstrate their learning and achieve grades appropriate to their level. This structure supports both academic progression (e.g., Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics) and practical readiness for numeracy in diverse contexts.Â
Assessment is through externally set written examinations. Two components are taken depending on whether learners follow the Core or Extended content, with calculator use allowed on designated papers.
