Chemistry 9701
About Course
Cambridge International AS & A Level Chemistry (9701) is an internationally recognised qualification designed primarily for learners aged 16–19. Previous study of Cambridge IGCSE, O Level Chemistry or an equivalent course is recommended. The AS Level typically requires 180 guided learning hours, while the full A Level requires 360 hours. AS Level has three examination components, and the full A Level has five, which may be completed in one examination series or through a staged route. The course develops advanced chemical knowledge, scientific reasoning and practical competence.
You will study physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, including atomic structure, bonding, energetics, equilibria, reaction kinetics, periodicity, organic reactions and modern analytical techniques. You will also develop practical laboratory skills by planning investigations, recording observations, analysing data and evaluating experimental methods. These abilities help you understand applications of chemistry in industry, medicine, energy, materials and environmental protection. The qualification supports progression to university programmes such as chemistry, chemical engineering, medicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, materials science and environmental science, as well as careers in research, healthcare, manufacturing, education and technology.
At Polymath Institute, you will learn through a structured digital platform containing syllabus-aligned lessons, guided practice, topic exercises, quizzes and regular assessments. Past papers, mock examinations, focused revision and detailed progress tracking will help you identify weak areas and understand your examination readiness. You can learn at your own pace, revisit challenging lessons and strengthen both theoretical understanding and practical problem-solving skills. With 24/7 tutoring support, you receive help whenever difficulties arise. As your study partner, Polymath Institute supports your preparation for higher grades while helping you connect chemistry with university pathways, professional skills and future career opportunities.
