Information Technology 9626
About Course
Cambridge International AS & A Level Information Technology (9626) is designed for learners who want to understand how information technology is used to manage, process, and communicate information in a wide range of real-world contexts. The course develops both conceptual understanding and practical competence, making it suitable for learners progressing from IGCSE ICT or equivalent backgrounds.
Learners study how organisations use IT systems to solve problems, improve efficiency, and support decision-making. The syllabus emphasises the practical use of common software tools alongside an understanding of the underlying principles that govern data handling, communication technologies, and system development.
Progression through the course moves from foundational AS Level knowledge to more advanced A Level applications. Learners develop higher-order skills such as analysis, evaluation, and system design, while considering the social, legal, and ethical implications of IT use.
Assessment focuses on the application of knowledge and skills in both theoretical and practical contexts, supporting learners who wish to continue into further academic study or IT-related pathways.
