Religious Studies 0490
About Course
The Cambridge IGCSE Religious Studies (0490) syllabus is designed for learners preparing for examinations in 2025, 2026 and 2027. It develops learners’ understanding of religion in its social and cultural contexts and encourages a reflective, analytical and respectful approach to religious belief, practice and values.Â
The course supports learners in exploring religious concepts and ethical questions, gaining knowledge of beliefs, practices and traditions of selected religions, and analysing how religious ideas influence individuals and societies. It aims to equip learners with transferable skills such as evaluation, interpretation and reasoned argument.Â
Study is structured around comparative content from three major world religions  Christianity, Islam and Judaism with learners required to study two of these in depth. Topics include worship, beliefs, sacred places, festivals, rites of passage, family life and social action.Â
Assessment tests students’ knowledge, understanding and evaluative skills through structured written papers that require analysis and comparison of religious perspectives. Success in this qualification prepares learners for further study in humanities, ethics or religion-related pathways.
