About Course

Cambridge IGCSE™ Statistics (0479) is designed for learners who want a solid grounding in statistical methods and data analysis. The syllabus introduces core statistical ideas, terminology and techniques used to collect, summarise, present and interpret data sets. It also supports problem solving in real-life contexts.

The course is suitable for learners who enjoy quantitative reasoning and wish to develop analytical skills relevant to subjects such as mathematics, science, economics, business and geography. It emphasises practical statistical thinking and the correct use of statistical language.

Students study topics such as data collection and sampling, summary measures (like mean and standard deviation), probability, statistical distributions and interpretation of statistical outputs. The content progresses from basic understanding to applying methods for analysing and comparing data.

Assessment prepares learners for two externally examined papers that test knowledge of statistical techniques, interpretation of results, and problem-solving in familiar and unfamiliar situations. The qualification is recognised for progression to further study in a wide range of disciplines.
