Purpose and Benefits
Cambridge Thinking Skills builds vital intellectual capabilities disciplined analysis, reasoned decision-making, and coherent communication that support strong performance across academic subjects and in higher education settings. It prepares learners to work confidently with complex information and arguments.
Study Strategy for Success
1. Master Core Techniques Early:
Begin with Modules 01–04 to ensure secure foundations in organising and processing information. These are frequently tested skills throughout the syllabus.
2. Practice Argument Analysis and Construction:
Modules 05–08 are central to critical thinking. Regular practice identifying assumptions, evaluating evidence, and constructing arguments will improve accuracy under time pressure.
3. Use Past Papers Regularly:
Working with past exam questions familiarises you with command words and question styles specific to Thinking Skills. This is critical for high performance, particularly for A Level Papers 3 and 4.
4. Targeted Feedback:
Seek detailed feedback on explanations and reasoning. High marks depend not just on correct answers, but clear justification and logical structure.
Tailoring to Learner Goals
• High Achievement Pathway (A/A):*
Focus on accuracy, depth of explanation, and applying reasoning to unfamiliar or multi-step problems.
Supportive/Exploratory Pathway:
Use AS Level study to strengthen reasoning skills that support success in other subjects, even if not pursued at full A Level.
