How the qualification is assessed
All candidates take two externally assessed written papers. Both cover the complete syllabus and have equal weighting.
| Paper | Duration | Marks | Weighting | Structure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Short Answer and Data Response | 1 hour 30 minutes | 80 | 50% | Four compulsory questions using written, numerical or visual stimulus material. |
| Paper 2: Case Study | 1 hour 30 minutes | 80 | 50% | Four compulsory questions based on a business case-study insert. |
There is no coursework, speaking test or practical component. Final grades range from A* to G.
What each paper requires
Paper 1 combines short answers with structured data-response tasks. Under the 0264 format, each of the four questions has four subparts. Use the command word and mark allocation to decide how much explanation is needed.
Paper 2 uses a business case study and may include appendices such as tables, graphs, advertisements or newspaper extracts. Every part (a) question requires application to the business context. Read the relevant section of the insert before constructing the response.
Assessment-objective balance
| Objective | Paper 1 | Paper 2 |
|---|---|---|
| AO1 Knowledge and understanding | 40% | 30% |
| AO2 Application | 30% | 30% |
| AO3 Analysis | 20% | 25% |
| AO4 Evaluation | 10% | 15% |
Preparing the right kind of response
- A definition establishes accurate knowledge.
- An applied answer uses the organisation’s circumstances and evidence.
- Analysis explains a connected chain of consequences.
- Evaluation compares relevant alternatives and reaches a supported decision.
- A calculation must be interpreted: explain what the result means for the business.
Begin with accurate untimed work, then move towards the official 90-minute conditions. Use marks to guide pacing while leaving time to read instructions and check answers.
Examinations are available in June and November, with an additional March series in India. Private candidates may enter through an approved centre, which confirms the code, deadline and local arrangements.
